New vacancy: Associate Professorship of Social Demography

Department of Sociology and the School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography 
in association with Nuffield College


Grade 10a: University salary from £45,562 per annum (plus pensionable College Allowance of £21,915 per annum)

The Department of Sociology and the School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography (SAME) at Oxford, which are internationally renowned centres of excellence for teaching and research, in association with Nuffield College, now seek to appoint an accomplished research scholar and an inspirational teacher to the post of Associate Professor of Social Demography. This post is full-time, and subject to completion of a successful review, permanent and is available from the start of the 2017/18 academic year, or as soon as possible thereafter. This joint appointment will be held in conjunction with a Non-Tutorial Professorial Fellowship at Nuffield College.

The successful candidate will be expected to engage in advanced, internationally excellent research in the field of Social Demography and to take part in teaching of Demography courses in the Undergraduate Human Sciences Degree at the School of Anthropology and in the two-year MPhil in Sociology and Demography at the Department of Sociology, and to participate in supervision, examining, assessment and the admission of students to the Department, the School and the College.

The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in a relevant subject area, have specific research and teaching interest in any area of social demography, with the ability to contribute to research methods training at the graduate level. They will demonstrate a strong record of research at an international level along with an exciting vision for future research and a commitment to providing outstanding class, supervision and tutorial teaching to high-achieving and challenging graduate and undergraduate students. Applications from candidates experienced in securing research funding would be particularly welcome.

Associate professors who are awarded the title of full professor may receive from the University an additional salary payment of £2,655 per annum.
